It was the best defensive game the Spartans have played all year..
Both sides of the Spartan Ball played exceptional. Well coached, well prepared !
But, watching from my section.. it was the worst officiated game I have seen in 30 years !
Not sour grapes, but a call for the Big Ten to do something about the unprofessional men in zebra outfits calling the games. Please help !
Iowa is a good team, BUT... they should have lost. Unfortunately, due to referee incompetence, they had extra time, and ridiculous calls in their favor.
Its a crime when the referees impact a games outcome by their ineptness. MSU and Iowa, played their hearts out, the referees stole the game.
The personal foul against Jeremy Ware was pure crap, and kept the Iowa drive alive. This bad call in such a tight game can and did change the complexion in a huge defensive battle.
It was a clean football play.. no foul should have been called. the Ref was INCORRECT !
I am pure heart sick over this one.. . more so than CMU, the Irish or Wisc.. This one was clearly stolen. Something needs to be done, the Zebra's need training, study, seminars, clinics, classes, something.. they SUCK !

On to prepare and play Minny.. the Golden Gophers on Halloween...
But, I still will be MIGHTY Chaffed over this one...
Sparty On !!!

It was an excellent game. The Spartans were very well prepared for the game. DT Worthy jumped offsides twice(!), giving the Hawkeyes 5 yards, which was enough for a first down both times. These penalties were some of the only mistakes made. Even with these penalties, he had a good game.
Saddened… thanks for the comment.
From the stands it was a great game.. Unfortunately we were on the losing side of the stick. You are right, they played well. But the 15 yard penalty for what was a clean hit was an abomination…
Did the Big Ten choreograph this so Iowa would win ?? Are the Big Ten refs now like Big Time Wrestling ??? All we can do is chalk it up, and go Forward..
Mark Dantonio’s program is on the RIGHT Track… The Spartans are still looking good..
But, Maybe we don’t forecast 11 – 0 next year……
I don't know what you were watching, but that personal foul was absolutely the correct call. Ware left his feet to hit Sandeman above the shoulders, and, not only that, but there was clearly helmet to helmet contact. That was a textbook call. It's always going to get called that way, and it always should. The refs need to do everything they can to deter plays like that which can lead to concussions.
Also, it was embarrassing to hear Michigan State fans boo while Sandeman lay motionless one he turf. Completely classless.
I don't know what you were watching, but that absolutely was a personal foul by Ware. He left his feet to hit the receiver above the shoulders, and there was clearly helmet to helmet contact. That's a textbook call. They don't want players to get hit above the shoulders. It's always going to get called, and it always should. The officials should be doing everything in their power to deter plays like that which could lead to concussions.
Also, it was embarrassing to hear MSU fans boo while Sandeman lay motionless on the field. It was completely classless and they should be ashamed of themselves.
The refs didn't "steal" anything from MSU, and Iowa deserved to win. The Spartan offense was inept for most of the game, and the defense completely collapsed down the stretch. They have no one to blame but themselves.
Adam,
Thanks for the comment, but I total disagree with you.
The Booing was brought on by and exacerbated by the refs late and incorrect call. If the refs wanted to stay in control of the crowd, and the game which they didn't... They could have called it immediately or don’t call it.
And oh by the way, There was no helmet to Helmet contact or taunting. Please see the video replay.
Please read section 9 of the 2009-10 NCAA FOOTBALL RULES AND INTERPRETATIONS ( http://www.ncaapublications.com/Uploads/PDF/Football_Rules_5_2204c0005d-845f-4813-8391-54f15136079d.pdf )
I have attached a link for your reference.
I feel bad that Sandeman was hurt, it was a clean hit, and the refs. taunted the crowd by their actions in this very emotional and well fought game on both sides.
Prior to the late flag, a hush was over the crowd due to the player laying on the turf.
Sorry you feel this way, Thanks for the comment, and read up on your NCAA rules
At no point did I say that Ware taunted Sandeman. I don't know why you're getting defensive about that.
Also, you're incorrect in your interpretation of the rules. The rule states "No player shall initiate contact and target a defenseless opponent above the shoulders. When in question, it is a foul." That's exactly what happened, and they were correct in throwing the flag. It's a new point of emphasis this year in a effort to cut down on hits like that one which can lead to concussions. If you've read any of the recent research on the long-term effects of concussions, you'll see that that's a great rule. I'm glad they're enforcing it.
To clarify, I don't think Ware was being malicious or dirty. But he broke the rule, and they were correct in flagging him for it. Sorry.
This is correct. As Ware approached Sandeman's back was to him (defenseless) and all Ware had to do was put a shoulder into the kidney. It would have still been a hard, electrifying hit that didn't risk severe injury to anyone. At least that's what any good defender would have done. Instead he chose to go high (who knows why) and his team paid the price. I understand MSU fans being upset at the late flag, but it WAS the right call, regardless. I just hope something like that never happens to one of YOUR players.
At least you have an opinion.
thanks for the comment.
hahaha, I love it. You condescendingly tell me to learn the rules, I quote the exact rule that proves you wrong, and your only response is "yeah, well that's your opinion!"
I know it's easier to just pretend that you got screwed than admit that your team lost, but that's not how it happened. Sorry. It was a great game though.
hey hey spartymsu, it's one of those iowa boys you tailgated with (tall with the black and gold bibs). i just want to first comment on that personal foul call. even if it wouldn't have flagged, it would've only been 3rd down, so the drive was still alive. anyway, it was great tailgating with all of you MSU fans. it's nice to know that at least one school in michigan has respectable fans. i also want to apologize for phil handing you your first shotgun race loss. i love the blog (don't necessarily agree with everything) and wish you the best for the rest of the season.
Bet your Glad you made the drive to see another Hawkeye victory. You had better run the table for the rest of the season and Represent in a BCS bowl.
Got to agree about the fan base as well.. you guys seem much more respectable than those dicks from AnnArbor.
Shotgun: I think I was out of practice.. the sun was in my eyes.. it was Light beer… I was optically confused by the fricken yellow /black striped Iowa farmer Overalls (Liederhosen in Wisconsin)… Congrats, not many have beaten me..
See you next year in Iowa City for a rematch, And tell your one buddy not to bogart the Crown! That guys likes it too much…
I disagree, if you watch the game on TV the announcers all agreed with the refs on teh calls you say were "crap", the call against Jeremy Ware was very justified... the rule clearly states (even if its incidental) that you can not make contact above the shoulders. Even if its an accident... you HAVE to avoid those hits, I think he shoulda got another pentalty for taunting a clearly injured player. That coulda been way worse... Show some class Jeremy Ware, you coulda killed a guy and you get up a flex... not cool.
You also said it was the worst officiated game you have ever seen... please see Iowa VS Florida in the outback bowl a few years back.. then come complain about bad calls
The announcers of that game were even getting angry and nearly cursing on national telivision.
I'm a Hawk fan, and I agree, those refs should be shot. They were missing so many blatent calls all night long. Every time an MSU player held one of our guys it didn't get called (and there were many). Every time one of your DBs molested one of our receiver well before the ball got there it didn't get called (except the most obvious one with just a few seconds left). Y'all got away with murder most of the night, but I can totally see why you would complain about one or two calls that (rightly- - "helmet to helmet"/taunting I'm looking at you) didn't go your way.
The game never would have been close if the refs had done their jobs during the first 55 minutes, but if it makes you feel better to complain, go right ahead.
Matt,
Thanks for the comment and banter.
See you in KInnick next year.
I still think your full of it. I am sure it wil be another close game next year, seems to be that way between the Hawkeyes and Spartans.
