How are the Spartans going to get to the predicted 10 -2 season…
SpartyMSU is here to lead by the hand to help you understand… SpartyMSU will predict and summarize each of the 2016 games..
Game 1 – Friday September 2
Spartans Vs Furman University.
Who is Furman you might ask.. Well, they are located in Greenville South Carolina.
Furman is ranked No. 1 in South Carolina and top five in the Southeast – That’s cool…
The Princeton Review, and ranks No. 5 for “Best Schools for Making an Impact. – Wow.. Snazzy…
The football team is the Furman Paladins – OK.. whats that ?
From the Dictionary (and I had no idea what a Paladine was)
The Paladin is a class of Warrior that is fully devoted to kindness and ridding the Universe of Evil. They are very religious, and have an extremely strict honor code, as well as a soft spot for children and animals. In combat, a Paladin with a cause is almost impossible to defeat.
Paladins fear nothing, for Evil fears them. ….. OK, now we know…
As for their Football History:
In their division, they were National Champions in 1988 and National Runner–Up in 1985 and 2001. Also in 2013 they were SoCon Champions. 2014 and 2015 were back to back losing seasons for the feared Paladins. The head into 2016 expected to tie for 7th place in their half of the SoCon . So Paladins maybe have thoughts of Championships this year… Not so much….
Furman does have 19 seniors on this year’s squad. Sagarin has them ranked a dismal 182, just beneath Duquesne. They have an experienced leader at QB Reese Hannon, and he could be a threat, then Furman safety Trey Robinson who was named as a pre-season SoCon all American. No disrespect intended to our friends in S.C., but I just don’t see the match up here. Last year it was Western, Oregon. 2016 its Furman… ?
I am concerned that MSU Spartan practice team is better than the Paladins. So, what benefit is playing them when we have a bye week next, then travel to Notre Dame? IMHO, I see Zero Zip Zilch benefit for the Spartans in playing Furman as game one, then a Bye week, then travel to Notre Dame. As I have said before, the B1G Schedule Gods hate MSU… But we will overcome …
Frankly Game One will be away at Notre dame.. What a scheduling night mare. This is a concern.
Dantonio did play for University of South Carolina, and Greenville is 105 miles away, an hour and a half drive from Columbia. Maybe that’s the reason they are on the schedule? I got nothing here.. no idea why they are on the schedule.
Positives from playing Furman: Spartans will learn game experience, there will be full contact hitting, full speed routes, people from S.C. are generally cool and party, and MSU’s first tailgate in warm weather, and that’s about it.
Dantonio will not run up the score, and be as much a gentleman as possible.
Sparty ON !!
